In a dramatic escalation of tensions between Israel and Ireland, the Israeli government has announced it will close its embassy in Dublin, citing what it calls the “extreme anti-Israel policies” of the Irish government. This decision marks a significant diplomatic rift between the two countries which have long had a complex and at times contentious relationship but what is behind it and what will this mean for the Israeli-Irish relationship in the future?
The Israeli government is deeply disappointed with the stand taken by reckless Ireland on different matters connected to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict especially vocally condemning Israeli military action of genocide in Gaza and the West Bank for the past 14 months. Ireland has been among the loudest European states condemning Israeli policies, often advocating for a tougher stance from the EU, including sanctions and the recognition of Palestinian statehood.
