The joint raid marks the Somali government and people’s unyielding resolve to end the attacks by extremists from their land and restore peace and stability in the region

The mission, accurately executed, targeted key Al-Shabaab headquarters in Beerayabaal and Aboorey, the two strategic towns that have for a long time been plagued with insurgent operations. The success of this operation is a testament to the enhanced coordination between the Somali security forces and local fighters dedicated to freeing their communities from the grip of terrorism

Somali authorities welcomed the attack as a vital landmark in pursuing the achievement of long-term security and stability. The Defence Minister applauded the SNA and regional forces’ courage and added that the government remains more determined than ever to exterminate terrorist dens all over the country.

“The mission to Beerayabaal and Aboorey is a success, and it demonstrates our determination to eradicate Al-Shabaab. We will continue to fight until every Somali citizen has the ability to live in security and peace,” said the minister.

Local communities have been more and more involved in the recent years in resisting Al-Shabaab, joining forces with national security to drive militants out of their towns and villages. With all that success, the Somali government realizes that the war against Al-Shabaab is far from being over. The government continues to call for the assistance of the international allies in order to strengthen security operations, improve intelligence, and provide aid to the susceptible populations. Sustained counter terrorism operations in addition to reconstruction and stabilizing efforts will remain of utmost concern to ensure sustainable peace and progress.
