Governor Nathif J. Adam Leads Garissa Elders in Apology to Wardhey Community in Tana River County

Garissa Governor H.E. Nathif J. Adam, EGH, led a delegation of elders to Holla, Tana River County, to apologize to the Wardhey community following inciting remarks by Garissa and Somalia leaders. The statements, which were insulting in nature, had elicited resentment from the IRDID and BARETUMA communities.

Governor Nathif, speaking on behalf of the people of Garissa and the wider Ogaden community, stated that he was in deep regret over the statements of some elder. He condemned in the strongest terms possible the divisive statement, noting that such unacceptable language does not reflect the values of unity and respect that define inter-community relations.

The governor reaffirmed his commitment to fostering peace and harmony between Garissa and Tana River counties’ communities. He assured the affected communities that his government would take action to avert a repeat of such incidences, calling on local leaders to be careful and responsible when making public statements.

The reconciliation and apology project is an important step towards enhancing coexistence and understanding among the population in the area. The intervention will help to diffuse tension and consolidate bonds between the affected communities
Governor Nathif urged leaders and members of the public to engage in constructive dialogue and uphold the long standing tradition of peaceful coexistence. He pointed out the essential role of elders in calming public debate and insisted on a collective effort to refrain from misinformation and inciting rhetoric that could jeopardize relations between communities.
The visit to Holla emphasizes the region’s dedication to peaceful conflict resolution and prolonged harmonious co-existence of the diverse communities in Northern Kenya.
